چکیده

Data in real-time databases has to be logically and temporally consistent. The latter arises from the need to preserve the temporal validity of data items that reeect the state of the environment that is being controlled by the system. Some of the timing constraints on the transactions that process real-time data come from this need. These constraints, in turn, necessitate time-cognizant transaction processing so that transactions can be processed to meet their deadlines. This paper explores the issues in real-time database systems and studies two real-time database applications: Cooperative distributed navigation systems and Network services database systems. The purpose of the paper is to discuss the general characteristics of data and transactions in real-time database systems and further explore them in the context of these two applications. Cooperative distributed navigation systems appear in several complex applications such as road following and robot navigation. Network services databases provide support for the services in an intelligent network (IN). These services include dialed number services (800 service), personal mobility service, virtual business group service, and televoting.

Issues in Active Real-Time Databases

Active databases and real-time databases have gained increased interest in recent. Both active and real-time databases are considered as important technologies for supporting non-traditional applications such as computer integrated manufacturing (CIM), process control and air-traffic control. These applications are often event driven and need to react to events in a timely and efficient manner....

Issues in Developing Object-Oriented Database Systems for Real-Time Applications'

Database systems for real-time applications must satisfy timing constraints associated with transactions, in addition to maintaining data consistency. Recently, interests in object-oriented databases have been growing for nontraditional applications of database systems, and several real-time applications are being developed using an objectoriented paradigm. The object-oriented approach seems pr...

Real-Time Data Management for Big Data

Users have come to expect reactivity from mobile and web applications, i.e. they assume that changes made by other users become visible immediately. However, developers are challenged with building reactive applications on top of traditional pulloriented databases, because they are ill-equipped to push new information to the client. Systems for data stream management and processing, on the othe...
